Dimensional Lumber from Europe to USA

Maybe one of the larger projects we were involved. The operation consisted to import of dimensional lumber from Europe to USA. We started with a small vessel of 20,000 tons to decrease the transit time of a regular shipment schedule for a major US distributor of building products. Due to the successful of the operation, in 18 month we reached a volume of over 200,000 metric tons per month. Up to nine full vessels per month. This operation decreased the transit time, inventory levels, and the risks of currency and price fluctuations.

Hardwood Decking and Tropical Flooring

Working with FSC certified producers in Brazil; we developed a warehousing and operation in Belem and in Manaus, to integrate their export needs and decrease their operational costs. Using a mix of river barges and trucks, we were able to give to the importer more visibility into the supply chain.

Import of wood dimensional lumber from North Europe to Brazil

The soft wood growth very fast in Brazil, making the wood very soft and not suitable for infrastructure and construction. Therefore, the domestic market consume more tropical lumber. The tropical wood is expensive and could be substitute by some commercial forests of north Europe. Therefore, we imported (Larch and Spurs) that was a perfect substitute for the construction of houses and roofing in Brazil.

Plywood integrated logistics distribution. Over 14 CDs in USA

In order to maximize the local presence in USA and decrease logistics costs, we developed a container solution for Plywood with port warehouses. We shipped containers with 50.9m3 and made the distribution in EUA using flatbed trucks with 37.38m3. Therefore, for every three containers we shipped we moved four trucks. We made this operation in 14 different entry ports in USA. The producers, instead of selling their cargo FOB Brazil, they could offer their product FOT (free on truck) or DDP (delivery duty paid) to any location in USA.

Plywood multimodal logistics to Europe: five CDs

After the USA housing crises in 2008, our major plywood exporters from Brazil were looking for other markets. We used our experience on the warehouse and distribution in USA to stablish five CDs in Europe: Tilbury, Hamburg, Bremen, Antwerp and Bremerhaven. We maximized the local presence of the Brazilian producers in north of Europe and were able to decrease their logistics costs.

Printing paper from Canada to Brazil

One of the adding value exporters are always looking for, is to provide their clients a just in time delivery, does not matter where they are and how much they consume. With this goal in mind, we created for a major Canadian producer of printing paper an integrated logistics approach, mixing Break Bulk and containers moves, from Canada to Brazil. We stablished five deconsolidation centers of distribution (Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Itajai, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte). The goal of this project was to decrease the transit time and inventory security levels.

Wood Door Panels: Logistics and Distribution in USA

After many years distributing door skins in USA, using variable ports and two CDs to cover the country. The producer, with over 600 SKUs, did not have the control of the stock and the logistics cost.

We developed an integrated approach where:

  • We analyzed current port & ocean rate information
  • Defined the key ports taking a full view of total door to door costs to customer
  • Stablished the port operation/off dock distribution location
  • Consolidated the SKU and safety stock levels based upon customer commitments and supply chain lead times
  • Reduced the total inventory dollars in the system and increase the number of inventory turns.

Wood Fencing From Brazil to USA

We developed an integrated logistics approach for a couple of large US importers, where we provided visibility on the logistics chain, from the Brazilian mills to the security stocks in USA. We negotiated Brazilian inland and terminal costs, ocean rates, destination port costs and domestic distribution.
After a couple of years we helped the exporters set an operation in US, using our stablished CDs as stock and distribution hubs, increasing their presence in the US market.

Wood logs from Brasil to Asia

Asia has an ongoing increasing demand of wood logs to make plywood and other wood products. Asia for many years counted on the Russia and the Canadian supply of wood.
On the last years, the supply from Russia and Canada has been decreasing due to wood availability, increase in logistics costs and political reasons.
In the other hand, Brazil has a large supply of wood fiber and an extremely competitive logistics cost to Asia using containers. With this demand and solutions, we were able to work together with qualified suppliers and reliable buyers to ship logs in containers to Asia.

Wood Molding logistics and Distribution

The port crisis in Brazil in 2004 combined with a US housing market pick growth, created a need for shipment security for wood molding distributors in USA. Nominated by the importers we developed a project with over 20 exporters from Brazil where we cover the entire US market. With a volume of 76 containers per week (over 300 containers per month), we were able to negotiate the ocean freights and provide the importers visibility and reliability on the supply chain. We provided the importer a complete solution from the manufacturing site in Brazil to the stores in USA. We were able to decrease logistics costs and increase loading reliability at origin.

Wood Pellet operation from Brazil to Italy

Working with investment funds of pine forests in Brazil we identified that Brazil has an over surplus of wood energy. We developed a few projects for wood chips but the project that was economically more interesting was the wood pellets for the European residential heating market. We identified that the Mediterraneo and north of Europe were the best markets for this product. We decided to start the project with Italy.
In Italy, we were responsible to stablish over 14 centers of distribution and developed the entire commercial strategy. Setting up local agents, cash flow solutions and documentation processes on nine Italian regions.
With this experience, we are organizing specific projects.

Wood products Logistics and outsourcing in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay

With a proven experience and an established logistics operation in USA, we developed join project with one of the largest logistics group in Chile (which has base and operation in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) to sale a fully integrated logistics management service from Mill to the final user – One Stop Shop from South America to USA.
We leaded commercial workshops in loco on all countries, training their commercial staff to offer integrated services for forest products. By visiting local producers, we were able to identify opportunities at origin, by increasing cost efficiencies resulting from economies of scale, shorter time to market and reduction of inventory costs due to a fully integrated management of supply chain.

Wood Veneers from Brazil to USA and the Caribbean

With a direct and daily contact with our largest suppliers, we are always able to identify opportunities to maximize our network revenue and efficiency. One of these examples happened with some of our plywood producers. Their industrial operations were able to produce more veneers than Plywood. Therefore, we were able to help them reach, with creativity and efficiency, markets and clients in USA and at Caribbean, for wood veneers. Maximizing their revenue and improving their numbers.
